Mid- 1950's Ideal Toy Co 12" BETSY WETSY Doll -- All Original
My first love... This is the little doll that "started it all" for me over 25 years ago when I began collecting and documenting dolls. My very first doll as a young child was the earlier 14" size 1950's Betsy Wetsy made of hard plastic, which Ideal Toy Co. introduced first in the doll industry in 1949. In an effort to 'recapture' my own childhood I wanted my memories back when my children left the 'nest'. I've come a long way... Don't forget... Tiny Tears and Betsy Wetsy were "BFF's" -- Best Friends Forever -- and just like us when we were young, they 'traded' their clothes to 'stretch' their wardrobes because they were the same size. When you have a Tiny and a Betsy they will like to do the same, don't you think?
This lovely little girl is the RARE to find and "new" ALL VINYL Molded Hair Betsy Wetsy first produced in 1956 -- even HARDER to FIND in this smallest of sizes produced. Her counterpart with the saran hair is prevalent... this little one is a treasure to find in such near MINT condition. She comes ALL ORIGINAL with her teal blue cotton party dress with matching bonnet, white flannel diaper, and undershirt. French Val lace offsets the bodice and wide-brim bonnet. She does wear replaced baby pink crochet booties.
Baby herself is FLAWLESS -- I'd call this baby a PERFECT 10 out of 10. Her face still has the matte finish to the paint that only an unplayed with doll retains; her eyes open and close, and all eyelashes are present, thick, full and even. She has a high color face and gorgeous brown molded curls -- and they are PERFECT with NO RUBS anywhere. As appropriate, she is marked correctly on the nape of her neck: 12 / Ideal Doll / Made in U.S.A. and her back is marked Ideal 12. Her 5-part vinyl body is clean and without marks; give her a healthy squeeze and she squeaks loudly in protest. Bring back your own childhood memories of playtime with Betsy once again!
Baby's outfit is in lightly played with condition with a small spot on the bottom portion on the left front side of the skirt of her dress... very, very light and I did not notice it until examining my photos.... sure not to detract from her appeal and display.
My last photo shows this little one with her bigger 14" SISTER in coordinating dress. This listing is for my smaller 12" doll only.
